Hello! My name is Emily Mathews and I’m currently in my 2nd year at Purdue University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I also play on the Women’s Soccer Team, competing in the Big Ten conference. Due to the COVID pandemic, our 2020-2021 season was abbreviated to conference ...only games played in the spring. The 2021-2022 season was a much more traditional experience and deemed very successful for our Boilermaker program. For the first time since 2009, we made it to the NCAA tournament, losing to Notre Dame in a PK shootout in 2nd round play. We finished the season 15-4-3, the second-best record in program history. Our Boilermaker team was also nationally ranked for six consecutive weeks. On an individual level, I logged over 1900 minutes, starting every game as a midfielder. I was named to the All-Big Ten First Team, All-Region Third Team and received All-Big Ten Academic Honors. Aside from D1 college soccer, I have experience playing with the USYNT, competing in many international matches. Being from Michigan, Purdue is about 5 hours from home. Soccer and academics don’t afford me the opportunity to visit home often. Therefore, it is a blessing to be at a college considered to be one of the friendliest and safest in the Midwest. Although best known for their engineering programs, Purdue offers a large catalog of other undergraduate and graduate majors. Purdue also has hundreds of student organizations/clubs and a very active Fraternity/Sorority community. I know that choosing a school can seem like a daunting task and I would be happy to help you out by sharing my experiences. *Please note that I am not a representative of Purdue University and I am acting under my own behalf for these interactions.
