Hi my name is Kaitlyn and I am a current medical school student at California Health Sciences University - College of Osteopathic Medicine (CHSU-COM). I graduated from UC San Diego in June of 2019 with a major in Neuroscience and Physiology and a minor in Marine Science. I also ...have two Associate’s degrees, one in biology and one in physics, from College of the Desert community college in Palm Desert, CA. While in community college, I was involved in the MESA (Math Engineering Science Achievement) program and various clubs including the biology club, chemistry club, and chess club. I also competed on my school’s cross country team for almost two years before a knee injury stopped me. Once I transferred to UCSD, I joined a sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, and became involved in multiple committees during my two years there. In between graduating from UCSD and starting medical school at CHSU-COM, I worked as an administrative assistant at the Osteopathic Center of San Diego and as a phlebotomist at Precision Phlebotomy Solutions. I also worked as a medical scribe at Walter Cohen Osteopathy for a few months during 2019-2020 until COVID limited medical personnel in medical rooms. While I was exposed to osteopathic medicine by my stepfather who was a psychiatrist before his passing in September 2020, I decided to go to medical school after I sustained my knee injury during a cross country practice and my PCP and orthopedic surgeon could not figure out what was wrong with me. It was not until I started to see Dr. Roger Mignosa at the Osteopathic Center of San Diego that I was exposed to osteopathic manipulation and realized that I wanted to practice that as well. I also plan to have a sports medicine focus as I want to be able to help young athletes who sustain life altering injuries. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about UCSD or the process of getting into Medical School as well as why I chose to go DO instead of MD! Show more
