I am a rising senior at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), studying Industrial Engineering and Economics with a concentration in Financial Engineering. I am originally from Istanbul, Turkey. I’ve received a full ride from a college-prep high school from basketb...all and moved to Chicago when I was a sophomore and have kept living here ever since. Throughout my college life, I’ve tried to hold my academic and professional life separate. For academics, I’ve prioritized my engineering classes: getting those coding projects done, learning about high-frequency tradings, industrial data optimizations, supply chain analysis, etc. Along with my academic courses, I’m also conducting research with an award-winning Professor about energy optimization. I’ve been coding in VBA to create an interface to link complex product life-cycle analysis tools and doing research on the GWP of an electric board with sensitivity analysis. On the other hand, my professional life was mainly based on finance. I’ve been involved in a startup company for the insurance marketplace, where I was a product management intern. I’ve also worked in a Venture Capital as an Investment Analyst and in a Pension Fund as a Financial Engineer. I used many financial tools along the way and gained valuable information on investing and creating financial reports. Currently, I am working as a Capital Markets Research Analyst in JLL, a Fortune 200 company, where I analyze economic trends and their effects on commercial real estate. Upon graduation, I am trying to decide between getting a Master’s degree in Financial Engineering or going into quantitative trading. The college admission process is very stressful; hence, I hope I can help you and give valuable feedback on how I choose mine and clarify other questions you might have! Show more
